TTG: When did you create Super Space Chick and what do you blog about?
Kristin: I changed my Twitter handle to @SuperSpaceChick right after my 25th birthday when I felt that I had outgrown my high school AIM screen name. I love superheroes, I’m absolutely fascinated by space, and I’m a girl who had to sum up her interests in limited characters, creating a new and more accurate online identity. And so, Super Space Chick was born! From my Twitter handle, I also created a personal blog SuperSpaceChick.com. My lovely blog partner Kristin Fowler (@KristinLFowler) and I had been blogging together for a year on the website we created, On Wednesdays We Wear Pink, to share news, fashion, crafts, baked goods and more with our fellow geeks, but I wanted an outlet where I could share more personal things as well. SuperSpaceChick.com is what I’ve been using to catalog my crazy adventures so I still find it surprising and flattering that other people seem to be interested in reading about the things I’ve done!
TTG: What was your favorite part of filming Fangasm?
Kristin: Oh gosh, where to start?! I had so many fun experiences during my time on the show, but my favorite favorite part was getting to share the all of them with one of my best friends, Molly McIsaac. It was really difficult to be thrown into a new situation and move across the country from NYC to LA. I changed everything from my job to my living arrangements and the transition would not have been as seamless if I didn’t have Molly with me. We currently live on opposite coasts, but whenever we catch up (which is basically every day via text), we’ll reminisce about that time George Takaei was in our living room, or that time we pitched original comic book ideas to Stan Lee, or even those little off camera moments we’ve shared.
TTG: What is your favorite con to attend and why?
Kristin: This is also a difficult question! I travel far and wide to attend as many conventions as I can possibly afford/fit into the year. I think if I absolutely had to choose a favorite it would be Baltimore Comic Con. I love everything about it! It focuses solely on comic creators and The Harvey Awards are held annually on the Saturday of the convention so it tends to attract some of the biggest names in the industry. I always end up going way overboard on buying artwork while I’m there. It’s a small enough convention that everyone you want to see and all the panels you’d like to attend are completely attainable with minimal to no wait time (unless you’re trying to buy a latte from Starbucks because for some reason their baristas move at a snails pace compared to NY). They’re actually expanding the convention to three days this year which I’m super psyched for! After my first time attending, I knew it was definitely the one convention a year that I will never ever miss no matter what.
TTG: What is your all time favorite comic?
Kristin: My all time favorite comic is Spider-Man Blue by Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale. Peter Parker is the man of my dreams and I am very adamant about shipping him with Gwen Stacy. Although Gwen is dead for the entire comic, it serves as an homage to Peter’s relationship with her. The comic is a great for people who have some knowledge of Spider-Man’s lore but aren’t necessarily familiar with all of the characters. It gives the reader the highlights of the past and introduces a ton of villains in six short issues. Plus Tim Sale’s artwork is extraordinary!
TTG: If you could only watch one TV show for the rest of your life, which would it be?
Kristin: If I could only watch one TV show for the rest of my life I would have to choose The IT Crowd. There aren’t too many episodes so it may seem like a strange choice, but it’s my favorite sitcom ever created. No matter how many times I watch the episodes (I know all of the words at this point), I can never stop myself from laughing out loud. The characters are so amusing and I love British humor.
(Side question!) TTG: If you could be best friends with ANY superhero, who would it be and why?
Kristin: If I could be best friends with any superhero, I would definitely befriend Barbara Gordon. I totally admire every aspect of her character and I especially love how strong and independent she is. I can just envision slumber parties where I would live vicariously through her stories about Dick Grayson, and something tells me she would be the best social media stalker of all time so I’m sure she would have tons of gossip. And I would’ve loved to admire Gotham from the Clocktower Bab’s operated from.
A huge thanks to Kristin for doing this! She rules! If you want to follow the rest of Kristin’s adventures, make sure to check out her blog, Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram, YouTube, and On Wednesday We Wear Pink! 🙂
